This is the second installment of a new weekly series where I will look at players with similar names. The purpose is to sort out who is who and clear up any confusion. This week we will look at Jake Goebbert, Jared Goedert and Tyler Goeddel.
Goebbert is a 1B\OF with the Padres who has also split 2013 with Triple A El Paso and Triple A Sacramento. He hit .257/.371/.505 with 6 HR, 25 RBI, 21 R, 1 SB in 31 games at Sacramento before being traded to the Padres. He hit .270/.383/.459 with 5 HR, 18 RBI, 17 R, 0 SB in 32 games at El Paso and has hit .333/.417/.429 with 0 HR, 2 RBI, 4 R, 0 SB in 11 games with the Padres. He was originally drafted by the Astros in the 13th round in 2009 out of Northwestern. He was traded to the Athletics in 2013. Goebbert will be 27 on September 24.
Goedert is a 3B\1B with Triple A Buffalo of the Toronto Blue Jays. He has hit .255/.341/.390 with 9 HR, 34 RBI, 34 R, 3 SB in 71 games at Buffalo. He was originally drafted by the Indians in the ninth round in 2006 out of Kansas State. He playing in the Indians minor league system through 2012 and in 2013 played at Triple A Indianapolis of the Pirates. Goedert turned 29 on May 25.
Goeddel is a third baseman at Class A Advanced Charlotte of the Tampa Bay Rays. He has hit .254/.348/.384 with 4 HR, 39 RBI, 27 R, 16 SB in 73 games at Charlotte. He was originally drafted by the Rays with the 41st pick of the first round in 2011 out of St Francis High School in Mount View, CA. Goeddel will be 22 on October 20.
