This is the fourth installment of a new weekly series where I will look at players with similar names. The purpose is to sort out who is who and clear up any confusion. This week we will look at Willy Garcia and Raywilly Gomez.
Willy Garcia is an outfielder at Double A Altoona of the Pittsburgh Pirates. This season he is hitting .251/.283/.462 with 12 HR, 41 RBI, 39 R, 2 SB in 88 games. He is right-handed and 6-foot-3 and 180. He originally signed with the Pirates in 2010 as an amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic. Garcia will be 22 on September 4th.
Raywilly Gomez is a C\3B who has split 2014 between Double A Mobile of the Diamondbacks and then Double A Reading after being traded. He hit .273/.355/.360 with 3 HR, 22 RBI, 16 R, 0 SB in 55 games at Mobile and .229/.270/.257 with 0 HR, 2 RBI, 4 R, 0 SB in 11 games at Reading. He is right-handed and 5-foot-11 and 195. He originally signed with the Diamondbacks in 2007 as a non-drafted free agent. Gomez turned 24 on January 25.
