Two Major One Minor 072914

After a seven week hiatus Two Major One Minor is back with the 11th segment of the 2014 season. This is my fourth year of doing this series where I feature two Major League players and one minor league player each week. This week I am featuring David Peralta, Efren Navarro and Steven Souza Jr.

Peralta is an outfielder with the Arizona Diamondbacks who came up swinging from day one and is connecting on a regular basis. The lefty is hitting .310/.337/.450 with 3 HR, 19 RBI, 22 R, 2 SB in 45 games with the Diamondbacks. That was after making the jump from Double A Mobile where he was hitting .297/.359/.480 with 6 HR, 46 RBI, 33 R, 2 SB in 53 games. He had originally signed with the Cardinals in 2004 as an amateur free agent out of Venezuela but had trouble making the adjustment. Then he bounced around the independent leagues for a few years always showing he could hit with averages ranging from .332 to .392. Some guys just have an eye for the ball and Peralta is showing that translates to the MLB level. Peralta will be 27 on August 14.

Navarro is a 1B\OF with the Los Angeles Angels who has the making of a late round guy making good story. I've been rooting for him a few years now as he's shown he can master Triple A pitching and is trying to make the next step. He has split 2014 between Triple A Salt Lake and the Angels as he has hit .326/.418/.462 with 4 HR, 50 RBI, 45 R, 2 SB in 72 games at Salt Lake and .314/.385/.471 with 1 HR, 8 RBI, 9 R, 0 SB in 25 games with the Angels. The lefty has three seasons of limited MLB experience with the Angels as he has hit .298/.379/.440 with 1 HR, 9 RBI, 10 R, 1 SB in 37 games. He was originally drafted by the Angels in the 50th round in 2007. Navarro turned 28 on May 14.

Souza is an OF\3B\1B who has split 2014 between Triple A Syracuse and the Washington Nationals. He has raised his game to a new level this season as he is putting some on and off the field issues behind him. This season the righty is hitting .353/.431/.596 with 17 HR, 68 RBI, 59 R, 22 SB in 86 games at Syracuse and .125/.222/.125 with 0 HR, 0 RBI, 0 R, 0 SB in 8 games with the Nationals. He was originally drafted by the Nationals in the third round in 2007. Souza turned 25 on April 24.
