Nick Goody traded to Indians

Nick Goody was traded by the New York Yankees to the Cleveland Indians on December 20, 2016 for a PTBNL. The RHP split 2016 between Triple A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and the Yankees. Clay Buchholz traded to Phillies

Clay Buchholz was traded by the Boston Red Sox to the Philadelphia Phillies on December 20, 2016. The Red Sox in exchange received Josh Tobias.

Alberto Rodriguez traded to Giants

Alberto Rodriguez was traded by the Atlanta Braves to the San Francisco Giants on December 16, 2016 for cash. The LHP was 1-0, 2.95 ERA, 15 K, 0.98 WHIP, .164 BAA in 18.1 IP over 13 games at Rookie Gulf Coast in 2016. He originally signed with the Braves in 2014 as an amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic. Rodriguez turned 21 on December 13.

Tyler Barnette traded to Padres

James Dykstra was traded by the Chicago White Sox to the Texas Rangers on December 16, 2016 for cash. Danny Espinosa traded to Angels

Danny Espinosa was traded by the Washington Nationals to the Los Angeles Angels on December 10, 2016. The Nationals in exchange received Austin Adams and Kyle McGowin. 

Espinosa is a shortstop who hit .209/.306/.378 with 24 HR, 72 RBI, 66 R, 9 SB in 157 games with the Nationals in 2016. Over seven MLB seasons with the Nationals he hit .226/.302/.388 with 92 HR, 285 RBI, 337 R, 60 SB in 779 games. He was originally draftged by the Nationals in the third round in 2008. Tyler Pike traded to Braves

Tyler Pike was traded by the Seattle Mariners to the Atlanta Braves on December 9, 2016 to complete an earlier deal. LHP Pike was 6-5, 4.01 ERA, 134 K, 1.33 WHIP, .223 BAA in 125.2 IP over 25 games at Class A Advanced Bakersfield. He was originally drafted by the Mariners in the third round in 2012. Tyrell Jenkins traded to Rangers

Tyrell Jenkins was traded by the Atlanta Braves to the Texas Rangers on December 8, 2016 along with Brady Feigl. The Braves in exchange received Luke Jackson. 

RHP Jenkins split 2016 between Triple A Gwinnett and the Braves. Justin Haley traded to Twins in 3 team deal

Justin Haley was traded by the San Diego Padres to the Minnesota Twins on December 8, 2016. That was the final transaction on a day that saw RHP Haley briefly spend time with four different organizations. He started the day with the Boston Red Sox and was selected by the Los Angeles Angels in the Rule 5 draft. The Angels then sent him to the Padres for a PTBNL or cash. Finally was the above transaction that sent Haley and a PTBNL to the Twins in exchange for RHP Miguel Diaz who the Twins had selected first in the Rule 5 draft.

Caleb Smith traded to Cubs

Caleb Smith was traded by the Milwaukee Brewers to the Chicago Cubs on December 8, 2016 for a PTBNL or cash. The Brewers had received the LHP Smith from the Yankees earlier in the day in the Rule 5 Draft.

Luis Torrens traded to Padres

Luis Torrens was traded by the Cincinnati Reds to the San Diego Padres on December 8, 2016. The Reds in exchange received Josh Van Meter as the PTBNL on December 9th.

The Reds had received the catcher Torrens from the Yankees earlier in the day in the Rule 5 Draft.

Van Meter is a 3B\2B who split 2016 between Class A Advanced Lake Elsinore and Double A San Antonio. The Los Angeles Angels selected catcher Mario Sanjur from the Detroit Tigers. He hit .221/.294/.253 with 0 HR, 8 RBI, 8 R, 0 SB in 31 games at Short Season A Connecticut in 2016. His minor league caught stealing rate was 40%.  He originally signed with the Tigers in 2012 as an amateur free agent out of Panama. Sanjur will be 21 on December 23.

The Miami Marlins selected second baseman Alex Yarbrough from the Los Angeles Angels. He split 2016 between Double A Arkansas and Triple A Salt Lake. The infielder hit .267/.307/.365 with 4 HR, 52 RBI, 48 R, 11 SB in 131 games at Arkansas and 3 for 14, .214/.200/.429 with 0 HR, 3 RBI, 0 R, 0 SB in 4 games at Salt Lake.  He was originally drafted by the Angels in the fourth round in 2012. Yarbrough turned 25 on Augsut 3rd.

The Texas Rangers selected RHP Fernando Miranda from the Atlanta Braves. He pitched in 2016 in Mexico where he was 7-7, 4.87 ERA, 70 K, 1.43 ERA, .247 BAA in 81.1 IP over 22 games with 17 GS.  His exact signing date is elusive but he first pitched in the Braves organization in 2013. Miranda turned 22 on September 5th.

The Miami Marlins selected LHP Nick Maronde from the Cleveland Indians. He split 2016 between Akron and Triple A Columbus. The LHP was 0-1, 2.19 ERA, 23 K, 1.09 WHIP, .253 BAA, 4 SV in 24.2 IP over 21 games at Akron and 0-0, 4.24 ERA, 16 K, 1.54 WHIP, .278 BAA, 1 SV in 23.1 IP over 17 games with 2 GS at Columbus.  He was originally drafted by the Angels in the third round in 2011 and was traded to the Indians in 2014. Maronde turned 27 on September 5th.

The Houston Astros selected RHP Jared Mortensen from the Tampa Bay Rays. He was 7-7, 5.23 ERA, 86 K, 1.52 WHIP, .209 BAA in 72.1 IP over 34 games with 4 GS at Double A Montgomery in 2016.  He originally signed with the Rays in 2013 after pitching in the Independent Leagues. Mortensen turned 28 on June 1st.

The New York Yankees selected RHP Colten Brewer from the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Seattle Mariners selected outfielder Chuck Taylor from the Arizona Diamondbacks. He split 2016 between Class A Advanced Visalia and Double A Mobile. The outfielder hit .273/.377/.416 with 3 HR, 19 RBI, 27 R, 1 SB in 42 games at Visalia and .238/.309/.345 with 1 HR, 11 RBI, 11 R, 1 SB in 41 games at Mobile.  He was originally drafted by the Diamondbacks in the fourth round in 2012. Taylor turned 23 on September 21.

The Detroit Tigers selected outfielder Elvis Rubio from the Milwaukee Brewers. He split 2016 between Class A Wisconsin and Class A Advanced Brevard County. The outfielder hit .17 for 64, .266/.288/.328 with 1 HR, 8 RBI, 10 R, 2 SB in 17 games at Wisconsin and .216/.268/.293 with 6 HR, 38 RBI, 29 R, 6 SB in 108 games at Brevard County.  He originally signed with the Brewers in 2011 as an amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic. Rubio turned 22 on July 2nd.

The Baltimore Orioles selected LHP Brian Moran from the Atlanta Braves. He was 0-0, 5.06 ERA, 1 K, 1.13 WHIP, .300 BAA in 5.1 IP over 6 games at Triple A Gwinnett.  He was originally drafted by the Mariners in the seventh round in 2009. Moran turned 28 on September 30.

The Los Angeles Dodgers selected RHP Kyle Grana from the St Louis Cardinals. He was 5-1, 3.12 ERA, 63 K, 1.27 WHIP, .203 BAA, 6 SV in 52.0 IP over 43 games at Class A Advanced Palm Beach in 2016.  He originally signed with the Cardinals as a non-drafted free agent in 2013. The Boston Red Sox selected LHP Joshua Smith from the Pittsburgh Pirates. He split 2016 between Double A Altoona and Triple A Indianapolis. The LHP was 2-2, 6.44 ERA, 61 K, 1.59 WHIP, .284 BAA, 2 SV in 57.1 IP over 42 games at Altoona and 0-2, 7.36 ERA, 7 K, 2.32 WHIP, .394 BAA in 7.1 IP over 7 games at Indianapolis. The Texas Rangers selected RHP Zack Bird from the Atlanta Braves. The Tampa Bay Rays selected RHP Ty Hensley from the New York Yankees. He missed the 2015 and 2016 seasons after Tommy John surgery.  He was originally drafted by the Yankees with the 30th pick of the first round in 2012..Hensley turned 23 on July 30.

The Atlanta Braves selected LHP Cesilio Pimentel from the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was 2-3, 2.65 ERA, 48 K, 1.04 WHIP, .210 BAA, 6 SV in 51.0 IP over 29 games at Class A West Virginia in 2016, He originally signed with the Pirates in 2012 as an amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic. Pimentel will be 24 on January 5th.

The Colorado Rockies selected catcher Anthony Bemboom from the Los Angeles Angels. He split 2016 between Double A Arkansas and Triple A Salt Lake. The Miami Marlins selected outfielder Cal Towey from the Los Angeles Angels. He split 2016 between Arkansas and Salt Lake. The Kansas City Royals selected RHP Kevin Magallanes from the New York Yankees. 2016 Rule 5 Draft

The Rule 5 draft took place Thursday at the annual winter meeting of the general managers. The eligible pool of players are not on the 40 man roster of a team and were signed at the age of 19 and have been in the organization for four years or were signed at the age of 18 or younger and have been in the organization for five years. Each drafted player costs $50,000 and must remain on the 25 man roster of the drafting team the entire season or be offered back to the original team at half price. Like the regular draft the order starts with the team with the worst record and proceeds to the team with the best. It is the hope of each team that they land the next Josh Hamilton or Johan Santana both former rule 5 draftees.

The Minnesota Twins started off the draft by selecting RHP Miguel Diaz from the Milwaukee Brewers. He was 1-8, 3.71 ERA, 91 K, 1.18 WHIP, .226 BAA, 3 SV in 94.2 IP over 26 games with 15 GS at Class A Wisconsin. Howie Kendrick traded to Phillies

Howie Kendrick was traded by the Los Angeles Dodgers to the Philadelphia Phillies on November 11, 2016. The Dodgers in exchange received Darin Ruf and Darnell Sweeney.
