Brian McCann traded to Astros

Brian McCann was traded by the New York Yankees to the Houston Astros on November 17, 2016. The Yankees in exchange received Albert Abreu and Jorge Guzman.

McCann is a catcher who hit .242/.335/.413 with 20 HR, 58 RBI, 56 R, 1 SB in 130 games with the Yankees in 2016. Over 12 MLB seasons with the Yankees and Braves he hit .266/.340/.459 with 245 HR, 888 RBI, 645 R, 24 SB in 1510 games. He was originally drafted by the Braves in the second round in 2002. McCann will be 33 on February 20.

RHP Abreu split 2016 between Class A Quad Cities and Class A Advanced Lancaster. He was 2-8, 3.50 ERA, 104 K, 1.23 WHIP, .193 BAA, 4 SV in 90.0 IP over 21 games with 14 GS at Quad Cities and 1-0, 5.40 ERA, 11 K, 1.80 WHIP, .267 BAA in 11.2 IP over 3 games with 2 GS at Lancaster. He originally signed with the Astros in 2013 as an amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic. Abreu turned 21 on September 26.

RHP Guzman split 2016 between Rookie Gulf Coast and Rookie Greeneville. He was 1-1, 3.12 ERA, 25 K, 0.81 WHIP, .071 BAA in 17.1 IP over 7 games with 4 GS at Gulf Coast and 2-3, 4.76 eRA, 29 K, 1.41 WHIP, .272 BAA in 22.2 IP over 6 games with 4 GS at Greeneville. He originally signed with the Astros in 2014 as an amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic. Guzman will be 21 on January 28.
