Gleyber Torres of the Scottsdale Scorpions and New York Yankees was named the Joe Black Most Valuable Player in the Arizona Fall League for 2016. The shortstop led the AFL in average while hitting .403/.513/.645 with 3 HR, 11 RBI, 15 R, 4 SB in 18 games.
He had split the 2016 season between Class A Advanced Myrtle Beach of the Cubs and Class A Advanced Tampa after he was traded to the Yankees. He hit .275/.359/.433 with 9 HR, 47 RBI, 62 R, 19 SB in 94 games at Myrtle Beach and .254/.341/.385 with 2 HR, 19 RBI, 19 R, 2 SB in 31 games at Tampa. He originally signed with the Cubs in 2013 as an amateur free agent out of Venezuela. Torres will be 20 on December 13.
