Taijuan Walker was traded by the Seattle Mariners to the Arizona Diamondbacks on November 23, 2016 along with Ketel Marte. The Mariners in exchange received Jean Segura, Mitch Haniger and Zac Curtis.
RHP Walker split 2016 between Triple A Tacoma and the Mariners, He was 1-0, 3.60 ERA, 6 K, 1.33 WHIP, .211 BAA in 15.0 IP over 3 games at Tacoma and 8-11, 4.22 ERA, 119 K, 1.24 WHIP, .247 BAA in 134.1 IP over 25 games with the Mariners. Over four MLB seasons with the Mariners he was 22-22, 4.18 ERA, 322 K, 1.21 WHIP, .245 BAA in 357.0 IP over 65 games with 62 GS. He was originally drafted by the Mariners with the 43rd pick of the first round in 2010. Walker turned 24 on August 13.
Marte is a shortstop who split 2016 between Class A Everett and Tacoma while rehabbing and the Mariners. He hit 2 for 6, .333/.429/1.000 with 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 R, 0 SB in 2 games at Everett, 6 for 28, .214/.258/.286 with 0 HR, 2 RBI, 5 R, 2 SB in 7 games at Tacoma and .259/..287/.323 with 1 HR, 33 RBI, 55 R, 11 SB in 119 games with the Mariners, Over two MLB seasons with the Mariners he hit .267/.309/.349 with 3 HR, 50 RBI, 80 R, 19 SB in 176 games. He originally signed with the Mariners in 2010 as an amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic. Marte turned 23 on October 12.
Segura is a SS\2B who hit .319/.368/.499 with 20 HR, 64 RBI, 102 R, 33 SB in 153 games with the Diamondbacks in 2016. Over five MLB seasons with the Diamondbacks, Brewers and Angels he hit .280/.319/.396 with 43 HR, 208 RBI, 313 R, 129 SB in 632 games. He originally signed with the Angels in 2007 as an amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic, was traded to the Brewers in 2012 and traded to the Diamondbacks in January 2016. Segura will be 27 on March 17.
Haniger is an outfielder who split 2016 between Double A Mobile, Triple A Reno and the Diamondbacks. He hti .294/.407/.462 with 5 HR, 30 RBI, 21 R, 4 SB in 55 games at Mobile, .341/.428/.670 with 20 HR, 64 RBI, 58 R, 8 SB in 74 games at Reno and .229/.309/.404 with 5 HR, 17 RBI, 9 R, 0 SB in 34 games with the Diamondbacks. He was originally drafted by the Diamondbacks with the 38th pick of the first round in 2012. Haniger will be 26 on December 23.
LHP Curtis split 2016 between Class A Advanced Visalia, Mobile and the Diamondbacks. He was 1-0, 5.23 ERA, 22 K, 1.65 WHIP, .279 bAA, 2 SV in 10.1 IP over 8 games at Visalia, 0-1, 3.20 ERA, 30 K, 1.17 WHIP, .227 BAA, 4 SV in 19.2 IP over 19 games at Mobile and 0-1, 6.75 ERA, 10 K, 1.95 WHIP, .255 BAA in 13.1 IP over 21 games with the Diamondbacks. He was originally drafted by the Diamondbacks in the sixth round in 2014. Curtis turned 24 on July 4th.
