Danny Valencia traded to Mariners

Danny Valencia was traded by the Oakland Athletics to the Seattle Mariners on November 12, 2016. The Athletics in exchange received Paul Blackburn.

Valencia is a 3B\1B\OF who split 2016 between Class A Advanced Stockton while rehabbing and the Athletics. He hit 1 for 7, .143/.143/.571 with 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 R, 0 SB in 2 games at Stockton and .287/.346/.446 with 17 HR, 51 RBI, 72 R, 1 SB in 130 games with the Athletics. Over seven MLB seasons with the Athletics, Blue Jays, Royals, Orioles, Red Sox and Twins he hit .271/.317/.430 with 72 HR, 303 RBI, 278 R, 8 SB in 656 games. He was originally drafted by the Twins in the 19th round in 2006. Valencia turned 32 on September 19.

RHP Blackburn split 2016 between Double A Tennessee and Double A Jackson after he was traded to the Mariners. He was 6-4, 3.17 ERA, 72 K, 1.19 WHIP, .251 BAA in 102.1 IP over 18 games at Tennessee and 3-1, 3.54 ERA, 27 K, 1.25 WHIP, .268 BAA in 40.2 IP over 8 games at Jackson. He was originally drafted by the Cubs with the 56th pick of the first round in 2012. Blackburn will be 23 on December 4th.
