Mike Montgomery traded to Cubs

Mike Montgomery was traded by the Seattle Mariners to the Chicago Cubs on July 20, 2016 along with Jordan Pries. The Mariners in exchange received Dan Vogelbach and Paul Blackburn.

LHP Montgomery was 3-4, 2.34 ERA, 54 K, 1.09 WHIP, .220 BAA in 61.2 IP over 32 games with 2 GS with the Mariners in 2016. Over two MLB seasons with the Mariners he was 7-10, 3.68 ERA, 118 K, 1.29 WHIP, .245 BAA in 151.2 IP over 48 games with 18 GS. He was originally drafted by the Royals with the 36th pick of the first round in 2008, traded to the Rays in 2012 and traded to the Mariners in 2015. Montgomery turned 27 on July 1st.

RHP Pries has split 2016 between Double A Jackson and Triple A Tacoma. He was 5-2, 5.46 ERA, 62 K, 1.50 WHIP, .309 BAA in 59.1 IP over 13 games with 9 GS at Jackson and 2-1, 3.65 ERA, 21 K, 1.26 WHIP, .253 BAA in 24.2 IP over 7 games with 3 GS at Tacoma. He was originally drafted by the Mariners in the 30th round in 2011. Pries turned 26 on January 27.

Vogelbach is a first baseman who hit .318/.425/.548 with 16 HR, 64 RBI, 53 R, 0 SB in 89 games at Triple A Iowa. He was originally drafted by the Cubs in the second round in 2011. Vogelbach turned 23 on December 17.

RHP Blackburn was 6-4, 3.17 ERA, 72 K, 1.19 WHIP, .251 BAA in 102.1 IP over 18 games at Double A Tennessee in 2016. He was originally drafted by the Cubs with the 56th pick of the first round in 2012. Blackburn turned 22 on December 4th.
