Aaron Hill was traded by the Milwaukee Brewers to the Boston Red Sox on July 7, 2016 along with cash. The Brewers in exchange received Wendell Rijo and Aaron Wilkerson.
Hill is a 3B\2B\SS who had hit .283/.359/.421 with 8 HR, 29 RBI, 34 R, 4 SB in 78 games with the Brewers in 2016. Over 12 MLB seasons with the Brewers, Diamondbacks, and Blue Jays he hit .269/.324/.422 with 159 HR, 679 RBI, 715 R, 74 SB in 1478 games. He was originally drafted by the Blue Jays with the 13th pick of the first round in 2003. Hill turned 34 on March 21.
Rijo is a second baseman who had split 2016 between Class A Advanced Salem and Double A Portland. He hit .270/.364/.324 with 0 HR, 3 RBI, 9 R, 2 SB in 11 games at Salem and .186/.245/.266 with 1 HR, 12 RBI, 18 R, 2 SB in 51 games at Portland. He originally signed with the Red Sox in 2012 as an amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic. Rijo will be 21 on September 4th.
RHP Wilkerson had split 2016 between Portland and Triple A Pawtucket. He was 2-1, 1.83 ERA, 48 K, 0.95 WHIP, .175 BAA in 44.1 IP over 8 games at Portland and 4-2, 2.44 ERA, 54 K, 1.08 WHIP, .223 BAA in 48.0 IP over 9 games at Pawtucket. He originally signed with the Red Sox as a free agent in 2014 after pitching in the Independent Leagues. Wilkerson turned 27 on May 24.
