Brad Ziegler traded to Red Sox

Brad Ziegler was traded by the Arizona Diamondbacks to the Boston Red Sox on July 9, 2016. The Diamondbacks in exchange received Jose Almonte and Luis Alejandro Basabe.

RHP Ziegler was 2-3, 2.82 ERA, 27 K, 1.46 WHIP, .281 BAA, 18 SV in 38.1 IP over 36 games with the Diamondbacks in 2016. Over nine MLB seasons with the Diamondbacks and Athletics he is 32-24, 2.49 ERA, 372 K, 1.23 WHIP, .243 BAA, 81 SV in 567.0 IP over 571 games. He was originally drafted by the Phillies in the 20th round in 2003, was released in March 2004 and pitched in the Independent Leagues before signing with the Athletics in June 2004 and was traded to the Diamondbacks in 2011. Ziegler will be 37 on October 10.

RHP Almonte was 2-2, 3.91 ERA, 45 K, 1.19 WHIP, .249 BAA in 53.0 IP over 10 games at Class A Greenville in 2016. He originally signed with the Red Sox in 2012 as an amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic. 

Basabe is a second baseman who hit .310/.412/.467 with 4 HR, 25 RBI, 39 R, 14 SB in 64 games at Greenville in 2016. He originally signed with the Red Sox in 2012 as an amateur free agent out of Venezuela. Basabe will be 20 on August 26.
