Travis Demeritte traded to Braves

Travis Demeritte was traded by the Texas Rangers to the Atlanta Braves on July 27, 2016. The Rangers in exchange received Lucas Harrell and Dario Alvarez. 

Travis Demeritte is a second baseman who hit .272/.352/.583 with 25 HR, 59 RBI, 73 R, 13 SB in 88 games at Class A Advanced High Desert in 2016. He was originally drafted by the Rangers with the 30th pick of the first round in 2013. Demeritte will be 22 on September 30.

RHP Harrell had split 2016 between Double A Erie and Triple A Toledo of the Tigers before being released on May 16. The Braves signed him on May 20 and he split time between Triple A Gwinnett and the Braves. He was 2-1, 3.28 ERA, 16 K, 1.54 WHIP, .253 BAA in 24.2 IP over 5 games at Erie, 1-0, 3.60 ERA, 4 K, 1.40 WHIP, .278 BAA in 5.0 IP in 1 game at Erie, 2-1, 2.81 ERA, 27 K, 1.69 WHIP, .282 BAA in 32.0 IP over 9 games with 5 GS at Gwinnett and 2-2, 3.38 ERA, 21 K, 1.26 WHIP, .234 BAA in 29.1 IP over 5 games with the Braves. Over six MLB seasons with the Braves, Astros and White Sox he was 20-35, 4.74 ERA, 289 K, 1.56 WHIP, .275 BAA in 431.0 IP over 93 games with 67 GS. He was originally drafted by the White Sox in the fourth round in 2004. Harrell turned 31 on June 3rd.

LHP Alvarez split 2016 between Triple A Las Vegas of the Mets before the Braves claimed him off waivers on May 25, Triple A Gwinnett and the Braves. He was 0-1, 9.98 ERA, 27 K, 2.09 WHIP, .324 BAA in 15.1 IP over 17 games at Las Vegas, 0-0, 1.13 ERA, 14 K, 1.00 WHIP, .143 BAA in 8.0 IP over 8 games at Triple A Gwinnett and 3-1, 3.00 ERA, 28 K, 1.07 WHIP, .200 BAA in 15.0 IP over 16 games with the Braves. Over three MLB seasons with the Braves he was 4-1, 5.40 ERA, 31 K, 1.30 WHIP, .256 BAA in 20.0 IP over 26 games. He originally signed with the Phillies in 2007 as an amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic. Alvarez turned 27 on January 17.
