Mark Melancon traded to Nationals

Mark Melancon was traded by the Pittsburgh Pirates to the Washington Nationals on July 30, 2016. The Pirates in exchange received Felipe Rivero and Taylor Hearn.

RHP Melancon was 1-1, 1.51 ERA, 38 K, 0.96 WHIP, .205 BAA, 30 SV in 41.2 IP over 45 games with the Pirates in 2016. Over eight MLB seasons with the Pirates, Red Sox, Astros and Yankees he was 20-17, 2.65 ERA, 380 K, 1.05 WHIP, .220 BAA, 151 SV in 417.1 IP over 414 games. He was originally drafted by the Yankees in the ninth round in 2006, traded to the Astros in 2010, traded to the Red Sox in 2011 and traded to the Pirates in 2012. Melancon turned 31 on March 28,

LHP Rivero was 0-3, 4.53 ERA, 53 K, 1.17 WHIP, .236 BAA, 1 SV in 49.2 IP over 47 games with the Nationals in 2016. Over two MLB seasons with the Nationals he was 2-4, 3.67 ERA, 96 K, 1.06 WHIP, .218 BAA, 3 SV in 98.0 IP over 96 games. He originally signed with the Rays in 2008 as an amateur free agent out of Venezuela and was traded to the Nationals in 2014. Rivero turned 25 on July 5th.

LHP Hearn had split 2016 between Rookie Gulf Coast and Class A Hagerstown. He was 0-0, 1.42 ERA, 8 K, 1.26 WHIP, .105 BAA in 6.1 IP over 2 games and 2 GS at Gulf Coast and 1-0, 3.18 ERA, 31 K, 1.41 WHIP, .278 BAA in 22.2 IP over 8 games with 2 GS at Hagerstown. He was originally drafted by the Nationals in the fifth round in 2015. Hearn will be 22 on August 30.
