Richie Shaffer was traded by the Tampa Bay Rays to the Seattle Mariners on November 18, 2016 along with Taylor Motter. The Rays in exchange received Andrew Kittredge, Dalton Kelly and Dylan Thompson.
Shaffer is a 1B\3B who split 2016 between Triple A Durham and the Rays. He hit .227/.329/.367 with 11 HR, 48 RBI, 49 R, 4 SB in 119 games at Durham and 12 for 48, .250/.315/.438 with 1 HR, 4 RBI, 5 R, 0 SB in 20 games with the Rays. Motter is a SS\2B\OF who split 2016 between Durham and the Rays. He hit .229/.297/.389 with 13 HR, 46 RBI, 44 R, 19 SB in 88 games at Durham and 15 for 80, .188/.290/.300 with 2 HR, 9 RBI, 11 R, 0 SB in 33 games with the Rays. He was originally drafted by the Rays in the 17th round in 2011. Motter turned 27 on September 18.
RHP Kittredge split 2016 between Double A Jackson and Triple A Tacoma. He was 1-1, 3.44 ERA, 37 K, 1.38 WHIP, .278 BAA in 34.0 IP over 14 games with 4 GS at Jackson and 2-2, 3.55 ERA, 47 K, 1.26 WHIP, .258 BAA, 7 SV in 38.0 IP over 23 games with 1 GS at Tacoma. He was originally drafted by the Mariners in the 45th round in 2008. Kittredge will be 27 on March 17.
Kelly is a first baseman who hit .293/.384/.416 with 7 HR, 58 RBI, 70 R, 21 SB in 130 games at Class A Clinton in 2016. He was originally drafted by the Mariners in the 38th round in 2015. Kelly turned 22 on August 4th.
RHP Thompson was 0-1, 5.79 ERA, 6 K, 2.14 WHIP, .316 BAA in 4.2 IP over 3 games with 1 GS at Rookie Arizona in 2016. He was originally drafted by the Mariners in the fourth round in 2015. Thompson turned 20 on September 16.
