Rick Porcello of the Boston Red Sox won the 2016 American League Cy Young award by the Baseball Writers Association of America. He had eight first place votes and 137 total. Other pitchers receiving first place votes were Justin Verlander of the Tigers with 14 and 132 points total, Corey Kluber of the Indians with three and 98 total and Zach Britton of the Orioles with three and 72 total. Others receiving votes were Chris Sale of the White Sox with 40 points, J.A. Happ (Blue Jays, 14), Aaron Sanchez (Blue Jays, 6), Masahiro Tanaka (Yankees, 6), Andrew Miller (Yankees\Indians, 3), Michael Fulmer (Tigers, 1) and Jose Quintana (White Sox, 1).
For the season the RHP was 22-4, 3.15 ERA, 189 K, 1.01 WHIP, .230 BAA in 223.0 IP over 33 games. Over eight MLB seasons with the Red Sox and Tigers he is 107-82, 4.20 ERA, 993 K, 1.31 WHIP, .276 BAA in 1468.1 IP over 245 games with 241 GS. He was originally drafted by the Tigers with the 27th pick of the first round in 2007 and was traded to the Red Sox in 2014. Porcello will be 28 on December 27.
