Rob Whalen traded to Mariners

Rob Whalen was traded by the Atlanta Braves to the Seattle Mariners on November 28, 2016 along with Max Povse. The Braves in exchange received Alex Jackson and a PTBNL.

RHP Whalen split 2016 between Double A Mississippi, Triple A Gwinnett and the Braves, He was 7-5, 2.49 ERA, 94 K, 1.22 WHIP, .232 BAA in 101.1 IP over 18 games at Mississippi, 0-1, 1.93 ERA, 18 K, 1.02 WHIP, .188 BAA in 18.2 IP over 3 games at Gwinnett and 1-2, 6.57 ERA, 25 K, 1.30 WHIP, .217 BAA in 24.2 IP over 5 games. He was originally drafted by the Mets in the 12th round in 2012 and was traded to the Braves in 2015. Whalen will be 23 on January 31.

RHP Povse split 2016 between Class A Advanced Carolina and Mississippi. He was 5-5, 3.71 ERA, 91 K, 1.21 WHIP, .262 BAA in 87.1 IP over 15 games at Carolina and 4-1, 2.93 ERA, 48 K, 1.03 WHIP, .236 BAA in 70.2 IP over 11 games at Mississippi. He was originally drafted by the Braves in the third round in 2014. Povse turned 23 on August 23.

Jackson is an outfielder who hit .243/.332/.408 with 11 HR, 55 RBI, 43 R, 2 SB in 92 games at Class A Clinton in 2016. He was originally drafted by the Mariners with the sixth pick of the first round in 2014. Jackson will be 21 on December 25.
