Derek Norris was traded by the Oakland Athletics to the San Diego Padres on December 18, 2014 along with Seth Streich. In exchange the Athletics received Jesse Hahn and R.J. Alvarez.
Norris is a catcher who in 2014 hit .270/.361/.403 with 10 HR, 55 RBI, 46 R, 2 SB in 127 games with the Athletics. Over three MLB seasons with the Athletics he hit .246/.336/.392 with 26 HR, 119 RBI, 106 R, 12 SB in 285 games. His caught stealing rate is 22%. He was originally drafted by the Nationals in the fourth round in 2007 and was traded to the Athletics in 2011. Norris turned 26 on February 14.
RHP Streich pitched in 2014 at Class A Advanced Stockton where he was 9-6, 3.16 ERA, 116 K, 1.16 WHIP, .253 BAA in 114.0 IP over 22 games. He was originally drafted by the Athletics in the sixth round in 2012. Streich will be 24 on February 19.
RHP Hahn split 2014 between Double A San Antonio and the Padres. He was 2-1, 1.91 ERA, 38 K, 1.16 WHIP, .221 BAA in 42.1 IP over 13 games at San Antonio and 7-4, 3.07 ERA, 70 K, 1.21 WHIP, .214 BAA in 73.1 IP over 14 games with the Padres. He was originally drafted by the Rays in the sixth round in 2010 and traded to the Padres in 2014. Hahn will be 26 on July 30.
RHP Alvarez split 2014 between Double A Arkansas, Double A San Antonio and the Padres. He was 0-0, 0.33 ERA, 38 K, 0.85 WHIP, .149 BAA, 1 SV in 27.0 IP over 21 games at Arkansas before being traded, 0-1, 2.76 ERA, 23 K, 1.16 WHIP, .250 BAA, 6 SV in 16.1 IP over 17 games at San Antonio and 0-0, 1.13 ERA, 9 K, 1.00 WHIP, .115 BAA in 8.0 IP over 10 games with the Padres. He was originally drafted by the Angels in the third round in 2012 and was traded to the Padres in July 2014. Alvarez will be 24 on June 8th.
