Johnny Giavotella traded to Angels

Johnny Giavotella was traded by the Kansas City Royals to the Los Angeles Angels on December 19, 2014. In exchange the Royals received Brian Broderick.

Giavotella is a second baseman who split 2014 between Triple A Omaha and the Royals. He hit .308/.373/.440 with 7 HR, 61 RBI, 66 R, 20 SB in 114 games at Omaha and .216/.268/.324 with 1 HR, 5 RBI, 8 R, 0 SB in 12 games with the Royals. Over four MLB seasons with the Royals he hit .238/.277/.334 with 4 HR, 45 RBI, 53 R, 8 SB in 125 games. He was originally drafted by the Royals in the second round in 2008. Giavotella will be 28 on July 10.

RHP Broderick pitched in 2014 with the Independent League Sugar Land Skeeters where he was 0-2, 2.31 ERA, 65 K, 0.96 WHIP, 11 SV in 62.1 IP over 60 games. He signed a minor league contract with the Angels after the season. He did pitch in the MLB with the Nationals in 2011 when he was 0-1, 6.57 ERA, 4 K, 1.54 WHIP, .320 BAA in 12.1 IP over 11 games. He was originally drafted by the Cardinals in the 21st round in 2007. Broderick will be 29 on September 1st.
