Evan Gattis traded to Astros

Evan Gattis was traded by the Atlanta Braves to the Houston Astros on January 14, 2015 along with James Hoyt. In exchange the Braves received Mike Foltynewicz, Rio Ruiz and Andrew Thurman.

Gattis is a C\OF who split 2014 between Triple A Gwinnet while rehabbing and the Braves. He hit .188/.188/.188 with 0 HR, 2 RBI, 2 R, 0 SB in 4 games at Gwinnett and .263/.317/.493 with 22 HR, 52 RBI, 41 R, 0 SB in 108 games with the Braves. Over two MLB seasons with the Braves he hit .253/.304/.487 with 43 HR, 117 RBI, 85 R, 0 SB in 213 games. His caught stealing rate is 23%. He was originally drafted by the Braves in the 23rd round in 2010. Gattis will be 29 on August 18.

RHP Hoyt split 2014 between Double A Mississippi and Triple A Gwinnett. He was 2-2, 1.14 ERA, 43 K, 0.92 WHIP, .170 BAA, 7 SV in 59.2 IP over 52 games at Mississippi and 1-1, 5.46 ERA, 34 K, 1.86 WHIP, .314 BAA, 1 SV in 28.0 IP over 24 games at Gwinnett. He originally signed with the Braves as a minor league free agent in 2012 after playing in the Independent Leagues. Hoyt will be 29 on September 30.

RHP Foltynewicz split 2014 between Triple A Oklahoma City and the Astros. He was 7-7, 5.08 ERA, 102 K, 1.46 WHIP, .260 BAA in 102.2 IP over 21 games at Oklahoma City and 0-1, 5.30 WHIP, 14 K, 1.61 WHIP, .299 BAA in 18.2 IP over 16 games with the Astros. He was originally drafted by the Astros with the 19th pick of the first round in 2010. Foltynewicz will be 24 on October 7th.

Ruiz is is a third baseman who played in 2014 at Class A Advance Lancaster where he hit .293/.387/.436 with 11 HR, 77 RBI, 76 R, 4 SB in 131 games. He was originally drafted by the Astros in the fourth round in 2012. Ruiz will be 21 on May 22.

RHP Thurman pitched in 2014 at Class A Quad Cities where he was 7-9, 5.40 ERA, 107 K, 1.41 WHIP, .275 BAA, 1 SV in 115.1 IP over 26 games. He was originally drafted by the Astros in the second round in 2013. Thurman turned 23 on December 10.
