Rick Porcello was traded by the Detroit Tigers to the Boston Red Sox on December 11, 2014. In exchange the Tigers received Yoenis Cespedes, Alex Wilson and Gabe Speier.
RHP Porcello in 2014 was 15-13, 3.43 ERA, 129 K, 1.23 WHIP, .268 BAA in 204.2 IP over 32 games with the Tigers. Over six MLB seasons with the Tigers he was 76-63, 4.30 ERA, 655 K, 1.36 WHIP, .283 BAA in 1073.1 IP over 184 games. He was originally drafted by the Tigers with the 27th pick of the first round in 2007. Porcello turned 26 on December 27.
Cespedes is an outfielder who split 2014 between the Athletics and Red Sox. He hit .256/.303/.464 with 17 HR, 67 RBI, 62 R, 3 SB in 101 games with the Athletics and .269/.296/.423 with 5 HR, 33 RBI, 27 R, 4 SB in 51 games with the Red Sox. He originally signed with the Athletics in 2012 as an amateur free agent out of Cuba and was traded to the Red Sox in July 2014. Cespedes will be 30 on October 18.
RHP Wilson split 2014 between Triple A Pawtucket and the Red Sox. He was 6-1, 4.35 ERA, 40 K, 1.48 WHIP, .248 BAA, 5 SV in 41.1 IP over 35 games at Pawtucket and 1-0, 1.91 ERA, 19 K, 0.88 WHIP, .198 BAA in 28.1 IP over 18 games with the Red Sox. Over two MLB seasons with the Red Sox he was 2-1, 3.38 ERA, 41 K, 1.30 WHIP,.255 BAA in 56.0 IP over 44 games. He was originally drafted by the Red Sox in the second round in 2009. Wilson turned 28 on November 3rd.
LHP Speier pitched in 2014 at Rookie Gulf Coast where he was 3-0, 1.55 ERA, 26 K, 0.79 WHIP, .210 BAA in 29.0 IP over 9 games. He was originally drafted by the Red Sox in the 19th round in 2013. Speier will be 20 on April 12.
