Jon Lester traded to Athletics

Jon Lester was traded by the Boston Red Sox to the Oakland Athletics on July 31, 2014 along with Jonny Gomes. In exchange the Red Sox received Yoenis Cespedes.

LHP Lester was 10-7, 2.52 ERA, 149 K, 1.12 WHIP in 143.0 IP over 21 games with the Red Sox in 2014. Over his nine season MLB career with the Red Sox he was 110-63, 3.64 ERA, 1386 K, 1.29 WHIP in 1519.1 IP over 242 games. He was originally drafted by the Red Sox in the second round in 2002. Lester turned 30 on January 7th.

Gomes is an OF\DH who hit .234/.329/.354 with 6 HR, 32 RBI, 22 R, 0 SB in 78 games with the Red Sox in 2014. Over 12 MLB seasons with the Red Sox, Athletics, Nationals, Reds and Rays he has hit .244/.335/.446 with 155 HR, 495 RBI, 460 R, 49 SB in 1074 games. He was originally drafted by the Devil Rays in the 18th round in 2001. Gomes will be 34 on November 22.

Cespedes is an outfielder who hit .256/.303/.464 with 17 HR, 67 RBI, 62 R, 3 SB in 101 games with the Athletics in 2014. Over his three season MLB career with the Athletics he hit .262/.318/.470 with 66 HR, 229 RBI, 206 R, 26 SB in 365 games. He originally signed with the Athletics in 2012 as an amateur free agent out of Cuba. Cespedes will be 29 on October 18.
