This is the fifth installment of a new weekly series where I will look at players with similar names. The purpose is to sort out who is who and clear up any confusion. This week we will look at Chris Marrero and Christian Marrero.
Chris Marrero is a 1B\OF who has split 2014 between Triple A Norfolk and Double A Bowie of the Baltimore Orioles. He hit .239/.291/.370 with 3 HR, 14 RBI, 17 R, 0 SB in 37 games at Norfolk before being demoted to Bowie where he has hit .189/.266/.342 with 4 HR, 15 RBI, 12 R, 0 SB in 32 games. He does have two seasons of limited MLB experience with the Nationals where he hit .232/.256/.272 with 0 HR, 11 RBI, 6 R, 0 SB in 39 games. He is right-handed and 6-foot-3 and 229. He was originally drafted by the Nationals with the 15th pick of the first round in 2006. Marrero turned 26 on July 2nd.
Christian Marrero is also a 1B\OF who has played in 2014 at Double A Birmingham of the Chicago White Sox. He has hit .309/.404/.525 with 7 HR, 32 RBI, 25 R, 4 SB in 42 games. He is left-handed and 6-foot-1 and 185. The White Sox originally drafted him in the 22nd round in 2005. Marrero will be 28 on July 30.
