Danny Valencia was traded by the Kansas City Royals to the Toronto Blue Jays on July 28, 2014. In exchange the Royals received Erik Kratz and Liam Hendriks.
Valencia is a 3B\2B who had split 2014 between Triple A Omaha and the Royals. He hit .273/.429/.545 with 1 HR, 1 RBI, 2 R, 1 SB in 3 games at Omaha and .282/.328/.382 with 2 HR, 11 RBI, 8 R, 0 SB in 36 games with the Royals. He has five seasons MLB experience with the Royals, Orioles, Red Sox and Twins as he has hit .265/.304/.409 with 35 HR, 167 RBI, 135 R, 4 SB in 371 games. He was originally drafted by the Twins in the 19th round in 2006. Valencia will be 30 on September 19.
Kratz is a catcher who had split 2014 between Triple A Buffalo and the Blue Jays. He hit .299/.354/.517 with 3 HR, 17 RBI, 13 R, 0 SB in 27 games at Buffalo and .198/.226/.346 with 3 HR, 10 RBI, 8 R, 0 SB in 34 games with the Blue Jays. He has five seasons MLB experience with the Blue Jays and Phillies as he has hit .216/.271/.397 with 21 HR, 63 RBI, 45 R, 0 SB in 163 games. He was originally drafted by the Blue Jays in the 29th round in 2002. Kratz turned 34 on June 15.
RHP Hendriks had split 2014 between Triple A Buffalo and the Blue Jays. He was 8-1, 2.33 ERA, 91 K, 0.91 WHIP in 108.1 IP over 18 games at Buffalo and 1-0, 6.08 ERA, 8 K, 1.20 WHIP in 13.1 IP over 3 games with the Blue Jays. He has four seasons MLB experience with the Blue Jays and Twins as he is 3-13, 6.06 ERA, 108 K, 1.56 WHIP in 169.1 IP over 33 games. He originally signed with the Twins in 2007 as an amateur free agent out of Australia. Hendriks turned 25 on February 10.
