Joe Torre MLB Hall of Fame 2014

Joe Torre was inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame class of 2014 along with Bobby Cox, Tom Glavine, Tony La Russa, Greg Maddux and Frank Thomas. Torre was a C\1B\3B with 18 seasons MLB experience playing with the Milwaukee Braves (1960-1965), Atlanta Braves (1966-1968), St Louis Cardinals (1969-1974) and New York Mets (1975-1977).

I believe his three best seasons were 1971 when he hit .363/.421/.555 with 24 HR, 137 RBI, 97 R, 4 SB in 161 games, 1966 when he hit .315/.382/.560 with 36 HR, 101 RBI, 83 R, 0 SB in 148 games and 1970 when he hit .325/.398/.498 with 21 HR, 100 RBI, 89 R, 2 SB in 161 games.

Torre was the American League batting champ in 1971. He also led the AL in RBI and hits (230) in 1971.

He was an All-Star nine times (1963-1967, 1970-1973). He won the American League MVP in 1971. He won a gold glove in 1965.

However it was his career as manager that warranted his induction to the Hall of Fame by the Veteran's Committee. He was manager of the New York Mets (1977-1981) with a record of 286-420, Atlanta Braves (1982-1984) with a record of 257-229, St Louis Cardinals (1990-1995) with a record of 351-354, New York Yankees (1996-2007) with a record of 1173-767 and Los Angeles Dodgers (2008-2010) with a record of 259-227. His 2326 career wins ranks fifth all time. He was the American League Manager of the Year in 1996 and 1998. Torre won the World Series Championship four times with the Yankees in 1996, 1998, 1999 and 2000.
