Jake Peavy traded to Giants

Jake Peavy was traded by the Boston Red Sox to the San Francisco Giants on July 26, 2014. In exchange the Red Sox received Heath Hembree and Edwin Escobar. 

RHP Peavy was 1-9, 4.72 ERA, 100 K, 1.43 WHIP in 124.0 IP over 20 games with the Red Sox in 2014. Over his 13 season MLB career with the Red Sox, White Sox and Padres he is 133-107, 3.58 ERA, 1969 K, 1.19 WHIP in 2069.0 IP over 326 games. He won the NL Cy Young in 2007 with the Padres. He was originally drafted by the Padres in the 15th round in 1999. Peavy turned 33 on May 31.

RHP Hembree was at Triple A Fresno where he was 1-3, 3.89 ERA, 46 K, 1.35 WHIP, 18 SV in 39.1 IP over 41 games. He had a brief stint with the Giants in 2013 when he was 0-0, 0.00 ERA, 12 K, 0.78 WHIP in 7.2 IP over 9 games. He was originally drafted by the Giants in the fifth round in 2010. Hembree turned 25 on January 13.

LHP Escobar was also at Triple A Fresno where he was 3-8, 5.11 ERA, 96 K, 1.49 WHIP in 111.0 IP over 20 games. He originally signed with the Rangers in 2008 as an amateur free agent out of Venezuela and was traded to the Giants in 2010. Escobar turned 22 on April 22.
