Alfredo Simon was traded by the Cincinnati Reds to the Detroit Tigers on December 11, 2014. In exchange the Reds received Eugenio Suarez and Jonathon Crawford.
RHP Simon pitched in 2014 with the Reds where he was 15-10, 3.44 ERA, 127 K, 1.21 WHIP, .245 BAA in 196.1 IP over 32 games. Over seven MLB seasons with the Reds and Orioles he was 32-28, 3.86 ERA, 373 K, 1.30 WHIP, .258 BAA, 19 SV in 529.1 IP over 209 games. He originally signed with the Phillies in 1999 as an amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic. Simon will be 34 on May 8th.
Suarez is a shortstop who split 2014 between Double A Erie, Triple A Toledo and the Tigers. He hit .284/.347/.503 with 6 HR, 29 RBI, 26 R, 7 SB in 42 games at Erie, .302/.404/.535 with 2 HR, 7 RBI, 6 R, 2 SB in 12 games at Toledo and .242/.316/.336 with 4 HR, 23 RBI, 33 R, 3 SB in 85 games with the Tigers. He originally signed with the Tigers in 2008 as an amateur free agent out of Venezuela. Suarez will be 24 on July 18.
RHP Crawford pitched in 2014 at Class A West Michigan where he was 8-3, 2.85 ERA, 85 K, 1.16 WHIP, .220 BAA in 123.0 IP over 23 games. He was originally drafted by the Tigers with the 20th pick of the first round in 2013. Crawford turned 23 on November 1st.
