Jeff Samardzija was traded by the Oakland Athletics to the Chicago White Sox on December 9, 2014 along with Michael Ynoa. In exchange the Athletics received Chris Bassitt, Josh Phegley, Rangel Ravelo and Marcus Semien.
RHP Samardzija split 2014 between the Cubs and Athletics. He was 2-7, 2.83 ERA, 103 K, 1.20 WHIP, .245 BAA in 108.0 IP over 17 games with the Cubs and 5-6, 3.14 ERA, 99 K, 0.93 WHIP, .224 BAA in 111.2 IP over 16 games with the athletics. Over seven MLB seasons with the Athletics and Cubs he was 36-48, 3.85 ERA, 738 K, 1.27 WHIP, .243 BAA, 1 SV in 777.2 IP over 222 games. He was originally drafted by the Cubs in the fifth round in 2006. Samardzija turned 30 on January 23.
RHP Ynoa pitched in 2014 at Class A Advanced Stockton where he was 4-2, 5.52 ERA, 64 K, 1.38 WHIP, .247 BAA in 45.2 IP over 31 games. He originally signed with the Athletics in 2008 as an amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic. Ynoa will be 24 on September 24.
RHP Bassitt split 2014 between Rookie Arizona, Double A Birmingham and the White Sox as he was 0-0, 4.15 ERA, 13 K, 1.38 WHIP, .257 BAA in 8.2 IP over 2 games at Arizona, 3-1, 1.56 ERA, 36 K, 1.15 WHIP, .206 BAA in 34.2 IP over 6 games at Birningham and 1-1, 3.94 ERA, 21 K, 1.58 WHIP, .286 BAA in 29.2 IP over 6 games with the White Sox. He was originally drafted by the White Sox in the 16th round in 2011. Bassitt will be 26 on February 22.
Phegley is a catcher who split 2014 between Triple A Charlotte and the White Sox as he hit .274/.331/.530 with 23 HR, 75 RBI, 69 R, 0 SB in 107 games at Charlotte and .216/.211/.514 with 3 HR, 7 RBI, 4 R, 0 SB in 11 games with the White Sox. Over two MLB seasons with the White Sox he hit .207/.221/.332 with 7 HR, 29 RBI, 18 R, 2 SB in 76 games. His caught stealing rate is 29%. He was originally drafted by the White Sox with the 38th pick of the first round in 2009. Phegley turned 27 on February 12.
Ravelo is a 1B\3B who played in 2014 at Double A Birmingham where he hit .309/.386/.473 with 11 HR, 65 RBI, 72 R, 10 SB in 133 games. He was originally drafted by the White Sox in the sixth round in 2010. Ravelo will be 23 on April 24.
Semien is a 3B\2B who split 2014 between Triple A Charlotte and the White Sox as he hit .267/.380/.502 with 15 HR, 52 RBI, 57 R, 7 SB in 83 games at Charlotte and .234/.300/.372 with 6 HR, 28 RBI, 30 R, 3 SB in 64 games with the White Sox. Over two MLB seasons with the White Sox he hit .240/.293/.380 with 8 HR, 35 RBI, 37 R, 5 SB in 85 games. He was originally drafted by the White Sox in the sixth round in 2011. Semien will be 25 on September 17.
