Zeke Spruill traded to Red Sox

Zeke Spruill was traded by the Arizona Diamondbacks to the Boston Red Sox on December 12, 2014. In exchange the Diamondbacks received Myles Smith.

RHP Spruill split 2014 between Rookie Arizona, Triple A Reno and the Diamondbacks. He was 0-2, 7.50 ERA, 6 K, 1.50 WHIP, .320 BAA in 6.0 IP over 3 games at Arizona, 3-7, 6.04 ERA, 71 K, 1.39 WHIP, .280 BAA, 1 SV in 79.0 IP over 28 games at Reno and 1-1, 3.47 ERA, 14 K, 1.37 WHIP, .300 BAA in 22.2 IP over 6 games with the Diamondbacks. Over two MLB seasons with the Diamondbacks he was 1-3, 4.24 ERA, 23 K, 1.56 WHIP, .319 BAA in 34.0 IP over 12 games. He was originally drafted by the Braves in the second round in 2008 and traded to the Diamondbacks in 2013. Spruill will be 26 on September 11.

RHP Smith pitched in 2014 at Class A Greenville where he was 5-10, 5.82 ERA, 73 K, 1.76 WHIP, .298 BAA, 1 SV in 103.2 IP over 26 games. He was originally drafted by the Red Sox in the fourth round in 2013. Smith will be 24 on March 23.
