Yoenis Cespedes traded to Mets

Yoenis Cespedes was traded by the Detroit Tigers to the New York Mets on July 31, 2015. The Tigers in exchange received Luis Cessa and Michael Fulmer.

Cespedes is an outfielder who hit .293/.323/.506 with 18 HR, 61 RBI, 62 R, 3 SB in 102 games with the Tigers in 2015. Over four MLB seasons with the Tigers, Red Sox and Athletics he hit .269/.317/.473 with 89 HR, 323 RBI, 295 R, 33 SB in 518 games. He originally signed with the Athletics in 2012 as an amateur free agent out of Cuba, was traded to the Red Sox in July 2014 and traded to the Tigers in December 2014. Cespedes will be 30 on October 18.

RHP Cessa had split 2015 between Double A Binghamton and Triple A Las Vegas. He was 7-4, 2.56 ERA, 61 K, 1.22 WHIP, .261 BAA in 77.1 IP over 13 games at Binghamton and 0-3, 8.51 ERA, 24 K, 1.81 WHIP, .354 BAA in 24.1 IP over 5 games at Las Vegas. He had originally signed with the Mets in 2008 as an amateur free agent out of Mexico. Cessa turned 23 on April 25.

RHP Fulmer had split 2015 between Class A Advanced St Lucie and Binghamton. He was 0-0, 3.86 ERA, 9 K, 0.57 WHIP, .160 BAA in 7.0 IP in 1 game at St Lucie and 6-2, 1.88 ERA, 83 K, 1.12 WHIP, .227 BAA in 86.0 IP over 15 games at Binghamton. He was originally drafted by the Mets with the 44th pick of the first round in 2011. Fulmer turned 22 on March 15.
