Marlon Byrd traded to Giants

Marlon Byrd was traded by the Cincinnati Reds to the San Francisco Giants on August 20, 2015 along with cash. The Reds in exchange received Stephen Johnson.

Byrd is an outfielder who had split 2015 between Double A Pensacola while rehabbing and the Reds. He hit .286/.286/.857 with 1 HR, 3 RBI, 1 R, 0 SB in 2 games at Pensacola and .237/.286/.448 with 19 HR, 42 RBI, 46 R, 2 SB in 96 games with the Reds. Over 14 MLB seasons with the Giants, Reds, Phillies, Pirates, Mets. Red Sox, Cubs, Rangers and Nationals he has hit .275/.330/.429 with 151 HR, 662 RBI, 718 R, 56 SB in 1502 games. He was originally drafted by the Phillies in the 10th round in 1999. Byrd will be 38 on August 30.

RHP Johnson pitched at Double A Richmond where he was 3-0, 3.41 ERA, 68 K, 1.28 WHIP, .214 BAA in 59.0 IP over 44 games. He was originally drafted by the Giants in the sixth round in 2012. Johnson turned 24 on February 21.
