Cliff Pennington traded to Blue Jays

Cliff Pennington was traded by the Arizona Diamondbacks to the Toronto Blue Jays on August 8, 2015 along with cash. The Diamondbacks in exchange received Dawel Lugo.

Pennington is a SS/2B/3B whi hit .237/.314/.281 with 1 HR, 10 RBI, 15 R, 3 SB in 72 games with the Diamondbacks in 2015. Over eight MLB seasons with the Diamondbacks and Athletics he has hit .248/.315/.346 with 28 HR, 200 RBI, 273 R, 80 SB in 761 games. He was originally drafted by the Athletics with the 21st pick of the first round in 2005 and traded to the Diamondbacks in 2012. Pennington turned 31 on June 15.

Lugo is a shortstop who had split 2015 between Class A Lansing and Class A Advanced Dunedin. He hit .336/.348/.451 with 2 HR, 23 RBI, 15 R, 3 SB in 31 games at Lansing and .219/.258/.292 with 2 HR, 21 RBI, 16 R, 1 SB in 67 games at Dunedin. He originally signed with the Blue Jays in 2011 as an amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic. Lugo turned 20 on December 31.
