Tyler Thornburg traded to Red Sox

Tyler Thornburg was traded by the Milwaukee Brewers to the Boston Red Sox on December 6, 2016. The Brewers in exchange received Travis Shaw, Mauricio Dubon, Josh Pennington,and a PTBNL or cash.

RHP Thornburg was 8-5, 2.15 ERA, 90 K, 0.94 WHIP, .162 BAA, 13 SV in 67.0 IP over 67 games with the Brewers in 2016. Over five MLB seasons with the Brewers he was 14-9, 2.87 ERA, 220 K, 1.19 WHIP, .213 BAA, 13 SV in 219.2 IP over 144 games with 10 GS. He was originally drafted by the Brewers in the third round in 2010. Thornburg turned 28 on September 29.

Shaw is a 3B\1B who hit .242/.306/.421 with 16 HR, 71 RBI, 63 R, 5 SB in 145 games with the Red Sox in 2016. Over two MLB seasons with the Red Sox he hit .251/.312/.442 with 29 HR, 107 RBI, 94 R, 5 SB in 210 games. He was originally drafted by the Red Sox in the ninth round in 2011. Shaw will be 27 on April 16.

Dubon is a shortstop who split 2016 between Class A Advanced Salem and Double A Portland. He hit .306/.387/.379 with 0 HR, 29 RBI, 53 R, 24 SB in 62 games at Salem and .339/.371/.538 with 6 HR, 40 RBI, 48 R, 6 SB in 62 games at Portland. He was originally drafted by the Red Sox in the 26th round in 2013. Dubon turned 22 on July 19.

RHP Pennington was 5-3, 2.86 ERA, 49 K, 1.16 WHIP, .200 BAA in 56.2 IP over 13 games at Short Season A Lowell in 2016. He was originally drafted by the Red Sox in the 29th round in 2014. Pennington turned 21 on July 6th.
