Luis Torrens was traded by the Cincinnati Reds to the San Diego Padres on December 8, 2016. The Reds in exchange received Josh Van Meter as the PTBNL on December 9th.
The Reds had received the catcher Torrens from the Yankees earlier in the day in the Rule 5 Draft.
Van Meter is a 3B\2B who split 2016 between Class A Advanced Lake Elsinore and Double A San Antonio. He hit .267/.355/.443 with 12 HR, 51 RBI, 51 R, 9 SB in 95 games at Lake Elsinore and .198/.248/.274 with 2 HR, 5 RBI, 10 R, 2 SB in 29 games at San Antonio. He was originally drafted by the Padres in the fifth round in 2013. Van Meter will be 22 on March 10.
