Adam Eaton was traded by the Chicago White Sox to the Washington Nationals on December 7, 2016. The White Sox in exchange received Lucas Giolito, Dane Dunning and Reynaldo Lopez.
Eaton is an outfielder who hit .284/.362/.428 with 14 HR, 59 RBI, 91 R, 14 SB in 157 games with the White Sox in 2016. Over five MLB seasons with the White Sox and Diamondbacks he hit .284/.357/.414 with 34 HR, 177 RBI, 324 R, 54 SB in 521 games. He was originally drafted by the Diamondbacks in the 19th round in 2010 and was traded to the White Sox in 2013. Eaton turned 28 on December 6th.
RHP Giolito split 2016 between Class A Hagerstown, Double A Harrisburg, Triple A Syracuse and the Nationals. He was 0-0, 6.75 ERA, 4 K, 0.86 WHIP, .231 WHIP in 7.0 IP om 1 game at Hagerstown, 5-3, 3.17 ERA, 72 K, 1.42 WHIP, .247 BAA in 71.0 IP over 14 games at Harrisburg, 1-2, 2.17 ERA, 40 K, 1.10 WHIP, .225 BAA in 37.1 IP over 7 games at Syracuse and 0-1, 6.75 ERA, 11 K, 1.78 WHIP, .295 BAA in 21.1 IP over 6 games with the Nationals. He was originally drafted by the Nationals with the 16th pick of the first round in 2012. Giolito turned 22 on July 14.
RHP Lopez split 2016 between Harrisburg, Syracuse and the Nationals. He was 3-5, 3.18 ERA, 100 K, 1.23 WHIP, .235 BAA in 76.1 IP over 14 games at Harrisburg, 2-2, 3.27 ERA, 26 K, 0.94 WHIP, .179 BAA in 33.0 IP over 5 games at Syracuse and 5-3, 4.91 ERA, 42 K, 1.57 WHIP, .272 WHIP in 44.0 IP over 11 games with 6 GS. He originally signed with the Nationals in 2012 as an amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic. Lopez will be 23 on January 4th.
RHP Dunning split 2016 between Rookie Gulf Coast and Short Season A Auburn. He was 0-0, 0.00 ERA, 3 K, 0.00 WHIP, .000 BAA in 2.0 IP in 1 game at Gulf Coast and 3-2, 2.14 ERA, 29 K, 0.98 WHIP, .208 BAA in 33.2 IP over 7 games at Auburn. He was originally drafted by the Nationals with the 29th pick of the first round in 2016. Dunning will be 22 on December 20.
