Chris Sale traded to Red Sox

Chris Sale was traded by the Chicago White Sox to the Boston Red Sox on December 6, 2016. The White Sox in exchange received Yoan Moncada, Michael Kopech, Alexander Basabe and Victor Diaz.

LHP Sale was 17-10, 3.34 ERA, 233 K, .104 WHIP, .227 in 226.2 IP over 32 games with the White Sox in 2016. Over seven MLB seasons with the White Sox he was 74-50, 3.00 ERA, 1244 K, 1.07 WHIP, .224 BAA, 12 SV in 1110.0 IP over 228 games with 148 GS. He was originally drafted by the White Sox with the 13th pick of the first round in 2010. Sale will be 28 on March 30.

Moncada is a 3B\2B who split 2016 between Class A Advanced Salem, Double A Portland and the Boston Red Sox. He hit .307/.427/.496 with 4 HR, 34 RBI, 57 R, 36 SB in 61 games at Salem, .277/.379/.531 with 11 HR, 28 RBI, 37 R, 9 SB in 45 games at Portland and 4 for 19, .211/.250/.263 with 0 HR, 1 RBI, 3 R, 0 SB in 8 games with the Red Sox. He originally signed with the Red Sox in 2015 as an aamteur free agent out of Cuba. Moncada turned 21 on May 27.

RHP Kopech split 2016 between Short Season A Lowell and Salem. He was 0-0, 0.00 ERA, 4 K, 1.85 WHIP, .250 BAA in 4.1 IP in 1 game at Lowell and 4-1, 2.25 ERA, 82 K, 1.04 WHIP, .147 BAA in 52.0 IP over 11 games at Salem. In the Arizona Fall League he was 3-0, 2.01 ERA, 26 K, 1.16 WHIP in 22.1 IP over 6 games. He was originally drafted by the Red Sox with the 33rd pick of the first round in 2014. Kopech turned 20 on April 30.

Basabe is an outfielder who split 2016 between Class A Greenville and Salem. He hit .258/.325/.447 with 12 HR, 52 RBI, 61 R, 25 SB in 105 games at Greeneville and 8 for 22, .364/.391/.545 with 0 HR, 1 RBI, 5 R, 0 SB in 5 games at Salem.  He originally signed with the Red Sox in 2012 as an amateur free agent out of Venezuela. Basabe turned 20 on August 26.

RHP Diaz was 2-5, 3.88 ERA, 63 K, 1.49 WHIP, .277 BAA, 10 SV in 60.1 IP over 37 games at Greeneville. He originally signed with the Red Sox in 2014 as an amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic. Diaz turned 22 on May 24.
