Carlos Ruiz traded to Dodgers

Carlos Ruiz was traded by the Philadelphia Phillies to the Los Angeles Dodgers on August 25, 2016 along with cash. The Phillies in exchange received A.J. Ellis, Tommy Bergjans and a PTBNL. 

Ruiz is a catcher who hit .261/.368/.352 with 3 HR, 12 RBI, 8 R, 3 SB in 48 games with the Phillies in 2016. Over 11 MLB seasons with the Phillies he hit .266/.352/.393 with 68 HR, 401 RBI, 388 R, 24 SB in 1069 games. His MLB caught stealing rate is 27%. He originally signed with the Phillies in 1998 as an amateur free agent out of Panama. Ruiz turned 37 on January 22.

Ellis is a catcher who hit .194/.285/.252 with 1 HR, 13 RBI, 8 R, 1 SB in 53 games with the Dodgers in 2016. Over nine MLB seasons with the Dodgers he hit .237/.340/.348 with 36 HR, 191 RBI, 155 R, 1 SB in 544 games. His MLB caught stealing rate is 34%. He was originally drafted by the Dodgers in the 18th round in 2003. Ellis turned 35 on April 9th.

RHP Bergjans was 3-13, 4.98 ERA, 133 K, 1.28 WHIP, .268 BAA, 1 SV in 130.0 IP over 24 games with 21 GS at Class A Advanced Rancho Cucamonga in 2016.He was originally drafted by the Dodgers in the eighth round in 2015. Bergjans turned 23 on December 1st.
