Yamaico Navarro traded to Pirates

Yamaico Navarro was traded by the Kansas City Royals to the Pittsburgh Pirates on December 7, 2011. In exchange the Royals will receive minor league players Brooks Pounders and Diego Goris.


Navarro had been a mid-season trade from the Red Sox to the Royals and spent time at Triple A and in the majors for both organizations. He played second, third, short and outfield. For the Red Sox organization in 2011 he hit .258/.362/.469 with five home runs, 13 RBI, 25 runs and 3 steals in 34 games at Triple A and hit  .216/.275/.351 with one home runs, three RBI, six runs and zero steals in 16 games with Boston. For the Royals organization he hit .272/.317/.391 with two home runs, nine RBI, 11 runs and 3 steals in 25 games at Triple A and hit .304/.346/.348 with zero home runs, six RBI, two runs and zero steals in six games with Kansas City. For his career he hit .206/.250/.265 with one home runs, 14 RBI, 12 runs and zero steals in 42 games. He originally signed with the Red Sox as an amateur free agent in 2005 out of the Dominican Republic.


RHP Pounders pitched at the Class A level in 2011. For he season he was 5-5 with a 3.68 ERA, 72 strikeouts, 1.14 WHIP and 3 saves in 66 innings over 36 games. He was originally drafted by the Pirates in the second round in 2009.


Goris played first, second, third and short in the Dominican Summer League in 2011. He hit .350/.387/.511 with five home runs, 46 RBI, 53 runs and 15 steals in 68 games. He originally signed with the Pirates as an amateur free agent in 2008.
