Casey McGehee traded to Pirates

Casey McGehee was traded by the Milwaukee Brewers to the Pittsburgh Pirates on December 12, 2011. In exchange the Brewers receive Jose Veras.


McGehee played second and third for three seasons with the Brewers and had a brief nine game stint with the Cubs in 2008. In 2011 he hit .223/.280/.346 with 13 home runs, 67 RBI, 46 runs and zero steals in 155 games. For his career he has hit .265/.320/.426 with 52 home runs, 242 RBI, 175 runs and one steal in 437 games. He was originally drafted by the Cubs in the tenth round in 2003.


RHP Veras has pitched six seasons for the Pirates, Marlins, Indians and Yankees. In 2011 he was 2-4 with a 3.80 ERA, 79 strikeouts, 1.24 WHIP and one save in 71 innings over 79 games. For his career he is 14-13 with a 4.11 ERA, 249 strikeouts, 1.32 WHIP and four saves in 247.1 innings over 255 games. He originally signed with the Rays as an amateur free agent in 1998 out of the Dominican Republic.
