Jeff Mathis traded to Blue Jays

Jeff Mathis was traded by the Los Angeles Angels to the Toronto Blue Jays on December 3, 2011. In exchange the Angels receive Brad Mills.


Mathis is a catcher who played for seven seasons with the Angels. In 2011 he hit .174/.225/.484 with three home runs, 22 RBI, 18 runs and 1 steal in 93 games. For his career he has hit .194/.257/.301 with 26 home runs, 139 RBI, 132 runs and 8 steals in 426 games. He was originally drafted by the Angels with the 33rd pick of the first round in 2001.


LHP Mills split his 2011 season between Triple A and with the Blue Jays. In 2011 he was 11-9 with a 4.00 ERA, 136 strikeouts and 1.27 WHIP in 157.1 innings over 24 games at Triple A and he was 1-2 with a 9.82 ERA, 18 strikeouts and 1.91 WHIP in 18.1 innings over fives games with the Blue Jays. For his career he is 2-3 with a 8.57 ERA, 45 strikeouts and 1.82 WHIP in 48.1 innings over 14 games. He was originally drafted by the Blue Jays in the fourth round in 2007.
