Ben Francisco traded to Blue Jays

Ben Francisco was traded by the Philadelphia Phillies to the Toronto Blue Jays on December 12, 2011. In exchange the Phillies receive minor league player Frank Gailey.


Francisco is an outfielder who has played five seasons for the Phillies and Indians. In 2011 he hit .244/.340/.364 with six home runs, 34 RBI, 24 runs and 4 steals in 100 games. For his career he has hit .260/.332/.430 with 45 home runs, 174 RBI , 181 runs and 30 steals in 460 games. He was originally drafted by the Indians in the fifth round in 2002.


LHP Gailey pitched at the Class A Advanced and Double A levels in 2011. He was 4-2 with a 1.84 ERA, 38 strikeouts, 0.82 WHIP and 2 saves in 44 innings over 26 games at Class A Advanced and was 1-4 with a 5.70 ERA, 23 strikeouts and 1.43 WHIP in 30 innings over 19 games at Double A. He was originally drafted by the Blue Jays in the 23rd round in 2007.
