Burke Badenhop traded to Rays

Burke Badenhop was traded by the Miami Marlins to the Tampa Bay Rays on December 12, 2011. In exchange the Rays receive minor league player Jake Jefferies.


RHP Badenhop pitched four seasons for the Marlins. In 2011 he was 2-3 with a 4.10 ERA, 51 strikeouts, 1.40 WHIP and one save in 63.2 innings over 50 games. For his career he is 13-15 with a 4.34 ERA, 190 strikeouts,  1.37 WHIP and 2 saves in 250.2 innings over 151 games. He was originally drafted by the Tigers in the 19th round in 2005.


Jefferies is a catcher who split 2011 at the Class A Advanced and Double A levels. He hit .235/.281/.333 with two home runs, 29 RBI, 18 runs and one steal in 59 games at Class A Advanced and hit .263/.300/.263 with zero home runs, three RBI, three runs and zero steals in six games at Double A. He was originally drafted by the Rays in the third round in 2008.
