Carlos Quentin traded to Padres

The Chicago White Sox traded Carlos Quentin to the San Diego Padres on December 31, 2011. In exchange the White Sox receive minor league players Simon Castro and Pedro Hernandez.


Quentin is an outfielder who played six seasons with the White Sox and Diamondbacks. In 2011 he hit .254/.340/.499 with 24 home runs, 77 RBI, 53 runs and one steal in 118 games. For his career he has hit .252/.346/.490 with 121 home runs, 383 RBI, 321 runs and 16 steals in 616 games. He was originally drafted by the Diamondbacks with the 29th pick of the first round in 2003.


RHP Castro split the 2011 season between Double A and Triple A. He was 5-6 with 4.33 ERA, 73 strikeouts and 1.24 WHIP in 89.1 innings over 16 games at Double A and was 2-2 with a 10.17 ERA, 21 strikeouts and 2.14 WHIP in 25.2 innings over six games at Triple A. He originally signed with the Padres as an amateur free agent in 2006 out of the Dominican Republic.


LHP Hernandez split the 2011 season between Class A Advanced, Double A and Triple A. He was 5-0 with a 2.70 ERA, 44 strikeouts and 1.02 WHIP in 56.2 innings over 15 games at Class A Advanced, was 3-2 with a 3.48 ERA, 43 strikeouts and 1.18 WHIP in 41.1 innings over nine games at Double A and was 2-1 with a 6.00 ERA, seven strikeouts and 1.89 WHIP in18 innings over four games at Triple A.
