2016 Rule 5 Draft Triple A Phase Round 3

After the Major League phase of the Rule 5 draft there is also a minor league draft. One part is the Triple A phase where teams have the option to draft players from Double A level teams or lower to play for their Triple A teams. The cost is $12,000 for each player

Here are the Round three selections for 2016

The Arizona Diamondbacks selected 2B\SS\3B Daniel Lockhart from the Chicago Cubs. He split 2016 between Class A Advanced Myrtle Beach and Double A Tennessee. The infielder hit .244/.290/.370 with 1 HR, 12 RBI, 16 R, 6 SB in 37 games at Myrtle Beach and .213/.260/.277 with 1 HR, 16 RBI, 12 R, 2 SB in 52 games at Tennessee.  He was originally drafted by the Cubs in the 10th round in 2011. Lockhart turned 24 on November 4th.

The Los Angeles Angels selected catcher Mario Sanjur from the Detroit Tigers. He hit .221/.294/.253 with 0 HR, 8 RBI, 8 R, 0 SB in 31 games at Short Season A Connecticut in 2016. His minor league caught stealing rate was 40%.  He originally signed with the Tigers in 2012 as an amateur free agent out of Panama. Sanjur will be 21 on December 23.

The Miami Marlins selected second baseman Alex Yarbrough from the Los Angeles Angels. He split 2016 between Double A Arkansas and Triple A Salt Lake. The infielder hit .267/.307/.365 with 4 HR, 52 RBI, 48 R, 11 SB in 131 games at Arkansas and 3 for 14, .214/.200/.429 with 0 HR, 3 RBI, 0 R, 0 SB in 4 games at Salt Lake.  He was originally drafted by the Angels in the fourth round in 2012. Yarbrough turned 25 on Augsut 3rd.

The Texas Rangers selected RHP Fernando Miranda from the Atlanta Braves. He pitched in 2016 in Mexico where he was 7-7, 4.87 ERA, 70 K, 1.43 ERA, .247 BAA in 81.1 IP over 22 games with 17 GS.  His exact signing date is elusive but he first pitched in the Braves organization in 2013. Miranda turned 22 on September 5th.
