Brandon Maurer traded to Padres

Brandon Maurer was traded by the Seattle Mariners to the San Diego Padres on December 30, 2014. In exchange the Mariners received Seth Smith.

RHP Maurer split 2014 between Triple A Tacoma and the Mariners. He was 1-0, 2.79 ERA, 24 K, 1.35 WHIP, .247 BAA, 3 SV in 19.1 IP over 12 games at Tacoma and 1-4, 4.65 ERA, 55 K, 1.34 WHIP, .267 BAA in 69.2 IP over 38 games with the Mariners. Over two MLB seasons with the Mariners he was 6-12, 5.58 ERA, 125 K, 1.47 WHIP, .292 BAA in 159.2 IP over 60 games. He was originally drafted by the Mariners in the 23rd round in 2008. Maurer will be 25 on July 3rd.

Smith is an outfielder who in 2014 hit .266/.367/.440 with 12 HR, 48 RBI, 55 R, 1 SB in 136 games with the Padres. Over eight MLB seasons with the PAdres, Athletics and Rockies he hit .265/.347/.453 with 85 HR, 321 RBI, 359 R, 20 SB in 865 games. He was originally drafted by the Rockies in the second round in 2004, traded to the Athletics in 2012 and traded to the Padres in 2013. Smith will be 33 on September 30.
