Jarred Cosart traded to Marlins

Jarred Cosart was traded by the Houston Astros to the Miami Marlins on July 31, 2014 along with Enrique Hernandez and Austin Wates. The Astros in exchange received Jake Marisnick, Colin Moran, Francis Martes and a 2015 competitive balance draft pick.

RHP Cosart was 9-7, 4.41 ERA, 75 K, 1.46 WHIP in 116.1 IP over 20 games with the Astros in 2014. Over two MLB seasons with the Astros he was 10-8, 3.57 ERA, 108 K, 1.42 WHIP in 176.1 IP over 30 games. He was originally drafted by the Phillies in the 38th round in 2008 and was traded to the Astros in 2011. Cosart turned 24 on May 25.

Hernandez is a 2B\SS\OF who had split 2014 between Double A Corpus Christi, Triple A Oklahoma City and the Astros. He hit .325/.372/.475 with 1 HR, 5 RBI, 9 R, 0 SB in 10 games at Corpus Christi, .337/.380/.508 with 8 HR, 31 RBI, 41 R, 6 SB in 67 games at Oklahoma City and .284/.348/.420 with 1 HR, 8 RBI, 10 R, 0 SB in 24 games with the Astros. He was originally drafted by the Astros in the sixth round in 2009. Hernandez will be 23 on August 24.

Wates is an outfielder who hit .299/.396/.381 with 2 HR, 30 RBI, 44 R, 31 SB in 74 games at Triple A Oklahoma City in 2014. He was originally drafted by the Astros in the third round in 2010. Wates will be 26 on September 2nd.

Marisnick is an outfielder who had split 2014 between Triple A New Orleans and the Marlins. He hit .277/.326/.434 with 10 HR, 40 RBI, 50 R, 24 SB in 89 games at New Orleans and .167/.216/.167 with 0 HR, 0 RBI, 3 R, 5 SB in 14 games with the Marlins. Over two MLB seasons with the Marlins he had hit .178/.226/.223 with 1 HR, 5 RBI, 9 R, 8 SB in 54 games. He was originally drafted by the Blue Jays in the third round in 2009 and was traded to the Marlins in 2012. Marisnick turned 23 on March 30.

Moran is a third baseman who hit .294/.342/.393 with 5 HR, 33 RBI, 34 R, 1 SB in 89 games at Class A Advanced Jupiter. He was originally drafted by the Marlins with the sixth pick of the first round in 2013. Moran will be 22 on October 1st.

RHP Martes pitched at Rookie Gulf Coast where he was 2-1, 4.97 ERA, 31 K, 1.45 WHIP in 29.0 IP over 7 games. He originally signed with the Marlins in 2012 as an amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic. Martes will be 19 on November 24.
