Asdrubal Cabrera traded to Nationals

Asdrubal Cabrera was traded by the Cleveland Indians to the Washington Nationals on July 31, 2014. The Indians in exchange received Zach Walters.

Cabrera is a SS\2B who hit .246/.305/.386 with 9 HR, 40 RBI, 54 R, 7 SB in 97 games with the Indians in 2014. Over eight MLB seasons with the Indians he hit .270/.331/.410 with 82 HR, 430 RBI, 475 R, 69 SB in 914 games. He originally signed with the Mariners in 2002 as an amateur free agent out of Venezuela and was traded to the Indians in 2006. Cabrera will be 29 on November 13.

Walters is a SS\3B who split 2014 between Triple A Syracus and the Nationals. He hit .300/.358/.608 with 15 HR, 48 RBI, 38 R, 0 SB in 60 games at Syracuse and .205/.279/.462 with 3 HR, 5 RBI, 7 R, 0 SB in 32 games with the Nationals. Over two MLB seasons of limited time with the Nationals he hit .234/.308/.489 with 3 HR, 6 RBI, 9 R, 0 SB in 40 games. He was originally drafted by the Diamondbacks in the ninth round in 2010 and was traded to the Nationals in 2011. Walters will be 25 on September 5th.
