Dexter Fowler traded to Cubs

Dexter Fowler was traded by the Houston Astros to the Chicago Cubs on January 19, 2015. In exchange the Astros received. Dan Straily and Luis Valbuena. 

Fowler is an outfielder who split 2014 between Triple A Oklahoma City while rehabbing and the Astros. He hit .300/.417/.300 with 0 HR, 1 RBI, 1 R, 0 SB in 4 games at Oklahoma City and .276/.375/.399 with 8 HR, 35 RBI, 61 R, 11 SB in 116 games with the Astros. Over seven MLB seasons with the Astros and Rockies he hit .271/.366/.419 with 48 HR, 245 RBI, 437 R, 94 SB in 783 games. He was originally drafted by the Rockies in the 14th round in 2004 and traded to the Astros in 2013. Fowler will be 29 on March 22.

RHP Straily split 2014 between Triple A Sacramento and the Athletics before being traded and Triple A Iowa and the Cubs after the trade. He was 4-3, 4.71 ERA, 67 K, 1.27 WHIP, .241 BAA in 63.0 IP over 10 games at Sacramento, 1-2, 4.93 ERA, 34 K, 1.25 WHIP, .232 BAA in 38.1 IP over 7 games with the Athletics, 3-5, 4.09 ERA, 56 K, 1.44 WHIP, .273 BAA in 55.0 IP over 10 games at Iowa and 0-1, 11.85 ERA, 13 K, 2.12 WHIP, .323 BAA in 13.2 IP over 7 games with the Cubs. Over three MLB seaosn with the Cubs and Athletics he was 13-12, 4.54 ERA, 203 K, 1.31 WHIP, .239 BAA in 243.2 IP over 48 games. He was originally drafted by the Athletics in the 24th round in 2009 and was traded to the Cubs in July 2014. Straily turned 26 on December 1st.

Valbuena is a 3B\2B\SS who in 2014 hit .249/.341/.435 with 16 HR, 51 RBI, 68 R, 1 SB in 149 games with the Cubs. Over seven MLB seasons with the Cubs, Indians and Mariners he hit .229/.313/.374 with 45 RBI, 173 RBI, 212 R, 6 SB in 576 games. He originally signed with the Mariners in 2002 as an amateur free agent out of Venezuela.
