Ben Zobrist traded to Athletics

Ben Zobrist was traded by the Tampa Bay Rays to the Oakland Athletics on January 10, 2015 along with Yunel Escobar. In exchange the Rays received Boog Powell, Daniel Robertson, John Jaso and cash.

Zobrist is a 2B\SS\OF who split 2014 between Class A Advanced Charlotte while rehabbing and the Rays. He hit .250/.400/.250 with 0 HR, 0 RBI, 0 R, 0 SB in 1 game at Charlotte and .272/.354/.395 with 10 HR, 52 RBI, 83 R, 10 SB in 146 games with the Rays. Over nine MLB seasons with the Rays he  hit .264/.354/.429 with 114 HR, 511 RBI, 565 R, 102 SB in 1064 games. He was originally drafted by the Astros in the sixth round in 2004 and traded to the Rays in 2006. Zobrist will be 34 on May 26.

Escobar is a shortstop who split 2014 between Class A Advanced Charlotte while rehabbing and the Rays. He hit .143/.143/.143 with 0 HR, 1 RBI, 2 R, 0 SB in 2 games at Charlotte and .258/.324/.340 with 7 HR, 39 RBI, 33 R, 1 SB in 137 games with the Rays. Over eight MLB seasons with the Rays, Blue Jays and Braves he hit .276/.347/.381 with 69 HR, 393 RBI, 503 R, 31 SB in 1074 games. He was originally drafted by the Braves in the second round in 2005, traded to the Blue Jays in 2010, traded to the Marlins in 2012 and traded to the Rays in 2012. Escobar turned 32 on November 2nd.

Powel is an outfielder who split 2014 between Class A Beloit and Class A Advanced Stockton, He hit .335/.452/.429 with 3 HR, 17 RBI, 43 R, 16 SB in 69 games at Beloit and .377/.449/.459 with 0 HR, 11 RBI, 11 R, 0 SB in 14 games at Stockton. He was originally drafted by the Athletics in the 20th round in 2012. Powell turned 22 on January 14.

Robertson is a SS\3B who played in 2014 at Class A Advanced Stockton where he hit .310/.402/.471 with 15 HR, 60 RBI, 110 R, 4 SB in 132 games. He was originally drafted by the Athletics with the 34th pick of the first round in 2012. Robertson will be 21 on March 22.

Jaso is a catcher who in 2014 hit .264/.337/.430 with 9 HR, 40 RBI, 42 R, 2 SB in 99 games with the Athletics. Over six MLB seasons with the Athletics, Mariners and Rays he hit .259/.359/.399 with 32 HR, 182 RBI, 199 R, 14 SB in 480 games. His caught stealing rate is 17%. He was originally drafted by the Devil Rays in the 12th round in 2003. Jaso will be 32 on September 19.
