Joakim Soria traded to Tigers

Joakim Soria was traded by the Texas Rangers to the Detroit Tigers on July 23, 2014. In exchange the Rangers received Corey Knebel and Jake Thompson.

RHP Soria was 1-3, 2.70 ERA, 42 K, 0.87 WHIP, 17 SV in 33.1 IP over 35 games with the Rangers prior to the trade. Over seven MLB seasons with the Rangers and Royals he is 15-18, 2.51 ERA, 411 K, 1.05 WHIP, 177 SV in 372.1 IP over 359 games. He originally signed with the Dodgers in 2001 as an amateur free agent out of Mexico and went to the Royals in 2006 through the Rule 5 draft. Soria turned 30 on May 18.

RHP Knebel had split 2014 between Double A Erie, Triple A Toledo and the Tigers prior to the draft. He was 3-0, 1.20 ERA, 23 K, 1.07 WHIP, 1 SV in 15.0 IP over 11 games at Erie, 1-1, 1.96 ERA, 20 K, 0.82 WHIP, 2 SV in 18.1 IP over 14 games at Toledo and 0-0, 6.23 ERA, 11 K, 1.62 WHIP in 8.2 IP over 8 games with the Tigers. He was originally drafted by the Tigers with the 39th pick of the first round in 2013. Knebel will be 23 on November 26.

RHP Thompson split 2014 prior to the draft between Class A Advanced Lakeland and Double A Erie. He was 6-4, 3.14 ERA, 79 K, 1.21 WHIP in 83.0 IP over 16 games at Lakeland and 1-0, 2.45 ERA, 7 K, 1.27 WHIP in 11.0 IP over 2 games at Erie. He was originally drafted by the Tigers in the second round in 2012. Thompson turned 20 on January 31.
