Emilio Bonifacio traded to Braves

Emilio Bonifacio was traded by the Chicago Cubs to the Atlanta Braves on July 31, 2014 along with James Russell. The Cubs in exchange received Victor Caratini. 

Bonifacio is an OF\2B\3B who split 2014 between Rookie Arizona and Double A Tennessee while rehabbing and with the Cubs. He hit .300/.364/.300 with 0 HR, 0 RBI, 1 R, 1 SB in 3 games at Arizona, .250/.250/.250 with 0 HR, 0 RBI, 1 R, 0 SB in 4 games at Tennessee and .279/.318/.373 with 2 HR, 18 RBI, 35 R, 14 SB in 69 games with the Cubs. Over eight MLB seasons with the Cubs, Royals, Blue Jays, Marlins, Nationals and Diamondbacks he has hit .264/.321/.344 with 12 HR, 149 RBI, 330 R, 152 SB in 681 games. He originally signed with the Diamondbacks in 2001 as an amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic. Bonifacio turned 29 on April 23.

LHP Russell was 0-2, 3.51 ERA, 26 K, 1.20 WHIP, 1 SV in 33.1 IP over 44 games with the Cubs in 2014. Over five MLB seasons with the Cubs he was 10-16, 3.87 ERA, 203 K, 1.29 WHIP, 3 SV in 272.0 IP over 316 games. He was originally drafted by the Cubs in the 14th round in 2007. Russell turned 28 on January 8th.

Caratini is a C\3B who hit .279/.352/.406 with 5 HR, 42 RBI, 42 R, 1 SB in 87 games at Class A Rome in 2014. He was originally drafted by the Braves in the second round in 2013. Caratini will be 21 on August 17.
